What We Must Do

What We Must Do

What do we gain from the murders of policemen? Satisfaction? Contentment? Vengeance? NO! What we gain is a reinforcement of the stereotype that we are nothing but "thugs" and "hoodlums". Does the execution of a news crew further the movement? Does the shooting of an unarmed police officer resurrect the mercilessly slain? The reputation of the peaceable majority have been tarnished by the actions of the ignorant minority. We chant "Black Lives Matter", while at the same time the ignorant minority tries to exterminate White police officers. We chant "Black Lives Matter" while we kill one another. Who are we fighting? Who is the enemy? Lincoln stated it best by saying "A house divided against itself cannot stand." The sooner we awaken to this truth, the better.
We cannot desire progression while tolerating regression. We cannot demand from others what we do not first give ourselves: respect. We cannot expect the police to protect us when we kill them as they do their job. Granted, some incidents were unjustified. Some incidents were unwarranted. However, we must do what we ask others to do. We must look at the situation from others perspective; in this case, the officer's side. We must learn to let the facts speak for themselves. We must learn to base our opinions off of reason. We cannot base our opinion off of emotion. We cannot base our opinion off of reasonable emotion, for that is subjective. We must learn to base our opinions off of reason, and reason alone.
What we must do is simple: We must hearken back to our fore bearers and use their tactics to continue their fight. We must take the mantle of civility and uphold our fundamental principles in order to achieve equality. We cannot dissolve into various squabbling factions and expect results. We cannot use violence as a method for progress. We cannot disregard our forefathers plan, their tactics, their blueprint which enabled us to achieve what we have already. It is not the will of the spirit of our movement to conceive of a violent civil insurrection. We must, and I repeat, MUST overlook the superficial labels that divide us in order to see what can be done to unite us. Just think: All humans are nothing but bones after death. Are not all people bleached, white skeletons after death? Are not all people black when there is no light? If we, as humanity, could focus on our commonalities, then equality would be a feasible reality.
